Emmeline Hill
Sixth Grade Science Teacher and Sixth Grade-Level Coordinator
Emmeline Hill received her B.A. in biology from Reed College in Portland, Oregon. Her studies focused on ecology, environmental politics, and animal behavior, including a senior thesis on deductive reasoning skills in cichlid fish. She spent two years teaching high school science in Nashville, Tennessee, where she also earned her M.Ed. in instructional practice from Lipscomb University. Emmeline’s research for her master’s focused on using citizen science and explicit-reflective teaching methods to improve scientific literacy skills. Emmeline joined the BPC faculty in 2018 and has since taught sixth and seventh grade science and sixth grade Socratic Seminar. Emmeline is an avid hiker, climber, and kayaker, and she enjoys bringing her love of the outdoors into the classroom.
Why I Work with Children
I love helping students grow into independent critical thinkers who are able to advocate for themselves and for others in their communities.
A Favorite Book
The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. I love that this book tackles a difficult current issue with nuance and honesty and shows the power of using your voice, even when you think people might not listen.
